ICJ on Kosovo: Less Than Meets the Eye

James Jatras
петак, 30. јул 2010.

More important is what comes next on the international political front. As for the Biden-Tadić “come to Jesus” talk, I'll leave the speculation to others. As for the Clinton appeal, we shall see what the real political waves may be.

Kosovo – Consequences of the ICJ Opinion

Stratfor
петак, 23. јул 2010.

For Kosovo, the ruling is a sign that it can begin exerting its sovereignty more forcefully over the whole of the country. Pristina has had to temper its attempts to press its sovereignty north of the river Ibar, where a substantial Serbian minority — roughly 70,000 — remains.

Kosovo in danger of further stalemate

Ian Bancroft
четвртак, 22. јул 2010.

The EU is ill-equipped for the political and diplomatic challenges it will face following the ICJ's verdict on Kosovo's independence. Any failure of the EU's policies in Kosovo will raise further questions not only about the credibility of its policies elsewhere in the region.

Merkel's Rules for Bankruptcy

Christian Reiermann
недеља, 18. јул 2010.

Fearing a lasting burden on taxpayers, the German government is preparing a set of insolvency rules for countries in the euro zone. It would require private investors to bear some of the financial burden and force the affected countries to give up some sovereignty.

Bosnian Lessons

Gordon N. Bardos
недеља, 18. јул 2010.

To understand the limits of what can be achieved militarily and politically in Iraq and Afghanistan, a good starting point is looking at what we have done in Bosnia and Kosovo over the past 10-15 years. The comparison is not encouraging.

A Time to Appease

Paul Kennedy
четвртак, 15. јул 2010.

Appeaser! The worst insult to emerge from our political lexicon. As America grapples with exhausting overseas commitments, bringing our might to bear will require a new sort of History lesson.

Walk Away from the Balkans

E. Wayne Merry
петак, 09. јул 2010.

The USA is walking away from the Balkans, and rightly so. As Washington turns its back on the Balkans, we might consider some lessons for our pursuits in southern Asia and for understanding developments in the Caucasus.

Will violence be rewarded again?

Boris Tadic
уторак, 06. јул 2010.

What everyone needs to do is reject the extremist voices who find comfort in the old ways, and who believe it is impossible for Serbs and Albanians to normalize their relations by reaching a historic compromise. This has been our vision all along—because we believe that comprehensive peace is essential

"Deficit Terrorists" Strike in the UK - The USA is Next

Ellen Brown
петак, 02. јул 2010.

In most countries, 95% or more of the money supply is created by banks as loans (or “credit”). Early in the twentieth century, about 30% of the British currency was issued by the government as pounds sterling or coins, versus only about 3% today. In USA, only coins are now issued by the government.

Russia’s Foreign Policy: What’s Next?

Nikolas Gvosdev
среда, 23. јун 2010.

When President Barack Obama welcomes President Dmitry Medvedev to the White House on June 24th, he should ask the Russian president one blunt question: What do you want? So, what are the Kremlin’s goals?

In the City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court, The Government of the Republic of Serbia versus Ejup Ganic

Tim Workman
четвртак, 29. јул 2010.

The request refers to the conflict as “The International Combat Conflict” whereas the grave war-crimes of the Geneva Convention would only be applicable if there was an international armed conflict.

Accordance with international law of the unilateral declaration of indepedence in respect of Kosovo

International Court of Justice
четвртак, 22. јул 2010.
The Court has already held, however, that the declaration of independence was not issued by the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government.

Kosovo holds its breath as ICJ prepares to rule on independence

Peter Beaumont
четвртак, 22. јул 2010.

The long-awaited ruling on the legality of Kosovo's 2008 UDI will be disclosed by the ICJ. The ICJ judgment – is not legally binding, but is likely to have profound consequences for Kosovo and other de facto states and territories that might secede in the future.

The EU Banking System Is In Big Trouble

Mike Whitney
недеља, 18. јул 2010.

The EU banking system is in big trouble. Many of the Union's largest banks are sitting on hundreds of billions of euros in dodgy sovereign bonds and non performing real estate loans. So the banks are concealing their losses through accounting sleight-of-hand and by borrowing money from the ECB.

Departing Europe

Doug Bandow
четвртак, 15. јул 2010.

Rather than whining about the Continent’s military spending, the United States should allow the Europeans to bear the consequences of their actions. That means leaving NATO to the Europeans.

The Global Political Awakening

Andrew Gavin Marshall
четвртак, 15. јул 2010.

There is a new and unique development in human history that is taking place around the world; it is unprecedented in reach and volume, and it is also the greatest threat to all global power structures: the ‘global political awakening.’ (Z. Brzezinski)

Settling the Balkans

Morton Abramowitz and James Hooper
петак, 09. јул 2010.

An unsettled Kosovo can create problems for the whole area. Resolution may not be at hand and the issue may remain a frozen conflict. Indeed there might not be any substantive negotiations. The West should also use any initiative on the Kosovo issue to make Bosnia a more effective state.

World Economic Crisis and Global Geopolitical Dislocation

GEAB
петак, 02. јул 2010.

Let’s take note that the beginning of June 2010 provides two particularly striking examples of the accelerated collapse of the global system of these past decades: one in terms of global economic governance, the other concerning the ability of the United States to control its own allies.

Gold Reclaims Its Currency Status as the Global System Unravels

Ambrose Evans-Pritchard
петак, 02. јул 2010.

We already know that the eurozone money markets seized up violently in early May as incipient bank runs spread from Greece to Portugal and Spain, threatening the first big sovereign default of our era.

2009 was Serbia’s best EU accession year ever

Vuk Jeremić
уторак, 22. јун 2010.

This act of parliament was unprecedented—not only for the Western Balkans, but for all of Europe, a continent whose long and bloody history has recorded many events requiring contrition. Yet until now, no legislature has ever done anything comparable.
